Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral

Project:

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral

Role:

Construction Manager as Adviser

Scope:

This transformative renovation and expansion of the historic Annunciation Cathedral honored the legacy of the original 1950s structure while elevating its beauty and capacity for future generations. The project doubled the size of the cathedral, featuring a breathtaking new 46-foot dome, an expanded balcony, and a striking new stone façade. Inside, the one-of-a-kind iconography and stained glass windows create a sacred and timeless atmosphere. Preserving the integrity of the existing church and the operations of the adjacent school required thoughtful coordination and detailed preconstruction planning. Our team developed a phased approach to allow access for foundational work and masonry while maintaining site safety. We also implemented a temporary HVAC system to protect the cathedral’s intricate wooden iconography during construction. This project is a testament to our team’s ability to merge reverence for tradition with the vision of renewal—delivering a space that reflects both spiritual and architectural excellence.

Impact:

Since 1917, this church has provided ministry, educational and recreational programs for Houston’s Greek Orthodox community. The historical renovation preserves their rich history, but also expands the facility to accommodate a steadily-growing congregation.
